Sleep Disordered Breathing in Children
Sleep Disordered Breathing (SDB) in children displays as one or more of the following symptoms: snoring, mouth breathing, restless sleep, bedwetting, hyperactivity, daytime drowsiness, or pauses in breathing. When a child’s breathing is disrupted during sleep, the body thinks the child is choking. Treating SDB can significantly improve a child’s quality of life.
What Can Parents Do?
Parents can find out if their child is suffering from SDB by visiting Dr. Kim-Vy Pham at Inspired Dental. Dr. Pham specializes in SDB for children and is able to screen and treat all children through the HealthyStart program.
What is the HealthyStart Program?
HealthyStart is an oral appliance therapy (series of mouth guards) that promotes the natural growth and development of a child’s jaw and airway. This increases airflow, encourages proper nasal breathing, and as an added bonus – straightens teeth! Most importantly, HealthyStart creates healthier, happier kids who can breathe.
What Should Parents Look for?
At Inspired Dental, we screen our patients to see if they display signs of teeth grinding, circles under their eyes, behavioral concerns, as well as digital scans of their airway to determine if they may be suffering from SDB.
